| COMMON PRACTISE |

At a Reiki gathering in Kauai last month, I had my first opportunity to experience a large group of Reiki people all practicing together at the same time. The experience was truly amazing to me! At one point, I was seated in the middle of the room of 15 tables, and I could feel myself in the middle of a vortex of energy. My whole body began to move in slow spirals!
 This experience lead me to think about the power of common practice. During this weekend, Phyllis Furumoto, Lineage Bearer of the Usui System of Reiki Healing, asked us to put aside our usual Reiki practices and instead use a common series of hand positions. This was the form of treatment shared by her grandmother, Hawayo Takata before her death in 1980. I looked around the room and was mysteriously moved by the sight of 30 people all moving their hands over the body at the same pace.
I was then reminded of an experience I have had just a few times in my life of saying the rosary over and over again. I am not nor was raised Catholic. Why, you may ask, was I moved to do such a thing? I always said the rosary during a difficult time, like the days after September 11, 2001. I remember I could not stop once I began to say the prayer, and that I felt a sense of support and protection surround me as I said it.
Looking back, I understand that by practicing this ritual which is performed all over the globe by thousands of people, I was somehow able to tap into the universal pool of energy generated by that common practice. Now I understand why, since I adapted the form of treatment Phyllis shared with me in June, my own treatments have deepened. I am beginning to understand how the Usui System supports me as I support it. Thank you, Phyllis, and thank you Reiki!
